Maccabi GB have announced that Brian Green has been appointed as the Head of Delegation for Team GB at this summer's Maccabiah Games in Israel.

Assuming the position in an honorary role, Brian has been involved with Maccabi since 1979 when he managed the U14 boys and girls football teams in Glasgow and first became involved with MGB in 2007 when he managed the Junior GB Squad at the European Maccabi Games in Rome.

Speaking about what it means to him, he says: “This is the ultimate honour. I didn’t think it was possible to better the emotion I had when asked to carry the flag into the Opening Ceremony at the last Games in 2017, but the recognition by the Maccabi GB hierarchy and this appointment has even surpassed those feelings.

“I can’t wait to lead out the 500 strong GB Delegation with my great friend and General Team Manager Joel Nathan.”

This will be the 15th international tournament Brian has been involved with in a managerial capacity, having overseen Maccabi GB teams at three Maccabiah’s, four European Games, six JCC Maccabi Games and one Pan American Games.

Commenting on the appointment, Joel Nathan said: “Brian appointed myself in my first MGB managerial role in 2007 and has been by my side ever since, I couldn’t be prouder to walk out with him at the Teddy Stadium in my final MGB General Team Manager role.

"He brings a wealth of experience and is a great sounding board not only for me but also the rest of my management team, which will be invaluable when we are in Israel.”

Maccabi GB Chairman Jonathan Prevezer added: “Brian was the obvious choice; his commitment and dedication to Maccabi has been second to none.

"He has been involved with so many different aspects of our work over the last 20 years that appointing him as the Head of Delegation was an extremely easy decision.

"I’m so pleased that he’s accepted the appointment and I am sure he will carry out the role as he has always done, with respect, professionalism and complete dedication.”
