Having achieved five consecutive promotions to rise to the top tier, Vale enjoyed a solid campaign in the top division last year and are now ready to challenge for honours once again.

It has been a winter of change at the club, with Steven Allweis replacing the long-serving Neil Lederman as captain, and new signings arriving at the club to strengthen the squad.

Allweis was quick to thank his predecessor for the role undertaken over the years. “Neil has done a phenomenal job as captain for the last seven years and everyone at the club will always be immensely grateful for the time, energy and commitment he invested in the role.

“He guided Vale into the first division of a high-quality league and helped to create a loyal group of players that formed a core part of recent Maccabiah squads.

“What he has done for the club should never be under-estimated, and I am delighted to have the opportunity to build on his great work and lean on him for support this season.”

Facing the calibre of teams that awaits Vale this season, Allweis reflected on his hopes for the year ahead for the club.

“It promises to be another hugely exciting period for the club. Our first team will have to be at our best to compete in Division One against some top sides and we have high hopes for the Second XI and three colts teams as they continue to flourish.

“We are delighted to have strengthened the squad over the winter with some new faces and look forward to seeing some of the club’s youngsters begin to fulfil their potential.

“We are always on the lookout for new players as well, so welcome all and any budding cricketers.”
