BABAI SENDS FAITHFOLD INTO CUP FINAL

A late strike from Paul Babai saw Faithfold book their place in the final of the Jewish FA Cup as they ended the domination of three-time winner Neasden A in the derby at the Hive.
JC star man Kyle Bentwood was the hero and villain for Neasden. He scored at both ends but it was Babai who had the final say as Neasden lost their first Morrison tie in four years to set up a final against Leeds Maccabi 1st, Manchester Maccabi 1st or North London Raiders A.
Jubilant Faithfold manager Zuriel Solomon told JC Sport: "My boys have been magnificent all season. We have been well organised, particularly in our defence, which has spread to the rest of the team."
He added: "It's all about getting to - and winning - finals. If the final is up north, we will arrive in Manchester a day or two ahead of the final so we can spend some time together as a squad and prepare correctly."
The May 15 final is a "must-win" for Faithfold who would be winning Solomon his first managerial honour.
However he said "It's not about me, it's for the players to show they are good enough to win a trophy. We don't want to go back down the motorway with runner-up medals."
The opener came on 25 minutes when Alex Levack's inswinging free kick was bundled into his own net by Bentwood.
After nearly equalising through Rob Lerner the leveller came on 50 minutes when Bentwood made amends after thumping home a header from a corner.
The Faithfold counter punch came near the end when substitute Simon Lawrence sprinted down the left and neatly found Babai free in the six yard box to tap in a simple winner.
Neasden captain Lee Cash reflected on the reality of a trophy-less season for last year's double winners. He told JC Sport: "It was all them first half but in the second they had one effort and scored.
"We did a lot of good things - for me Craig (Ellis) ran the show when he came on but we couldn't apply those final touches- story of our season. But don't worry we'll be back next year."
Faithfold will meet the winner of the Leeds Maccabi 1st/Manchester Maccabi 1st or North London Raiders A.

Inspired by captain marvel Jeremy Leigh, Assi Avital, Dan Roth and Gavin Sherman completed the rout.
Catford's scorers were Rafi Marom and Jamie Sinai (2).
UJIA manager Darren Rolfe told JC Sport: "We really turned up today even though I was disappointed to concede three goals.
"It was a tense game for the first 25 mins then scoring two before the break really gave us the cushion as Catford had to come and score three.
"This was when the gaps started to open up and in Dan Roth and Ben Sokel they won the midfield battle and picked out key defence-splitting passes.
"Our strikers Avital and Nassim worked their socks off and got their reward. Dave Cohen and Adam Rosenfeld worked their left and right backs from start to finish.
"We are all chuffed and we are looking forward to the semi against Raiders."
Catford joint-manager Adam Lewis told JC Sport: "We were dire."

Two goals from JC star man Daran Bern helped Redbridge take another big step towards their first-ever Premier Division title as they hit a 10-man Raiders team for six at Fairlop.
Missing Dean Nyman, RJC avenged the only team to have beaten them in the league this season.
They led 2-0 at the break against a depleted yet spirited Raiders team were missing Danny Berliner (suspended), Anthony Shaw (away, Alex Olcot (unavailable), Adam Posner (unavailable), James Fattal (unavailable), Mark Leader (injured), Jamie Wolfson (injured) and Adam Joselyn (injured).
Home keeper Dan Lee produced a wonderful flying save to keep out an Andrew McMaster blockbuster with the match goalless.
Defender Joel Berg, who recently returned from a fractured cheekbone, broke the deadlock with a close-range finish before Steve Summers made it 2-0 just before the break.
A brave Raiders team made a fist of it until the 75th minute, but then the floodgates opened.
Bern made it 3-0 with an excellent run and finish into the top corner and he added a fourth in the last.
Supersub Alex Lishak made it 5-0 with a deft lob before Sam McCarthy finished the job with a cool finish at the far post.
Redbridge boss Sam McCarthy told JC Sport: "Despite playing against a 10-man Raiders, it took us until the second half to get into our game and break them down.
"At the start of the match I would have been happy to take a 1-0 victory, so grabbing six was a great result for us, when you consider that we did not play as well as a unit as we would have liked.
"Raiders defended well and must be commended for the way in which they battled for 90 minutes."
Raiders joint-manager Danny Caro said: "I'm immensely proud of the boys who gave absolutely everything today. It was not easy to play with 10 men against the team that is likely to win the title but they worked their socks off and were a credit to our club.
"We gave them a very good game for 75 minutes and one of the most pleasing aspects was that their manager Sam McCarthy said after the game, that this had been their toughest game of the season."

Hendon manager David Garbacz told JC Sport: "We were all severely disappointed at the events of this morning. we were well up for the game ,had a strong squad and were confident of a big win. Then we had the farcical situation of the opposition having only eight men and then quickly losing another two.
"I felt sorry for those who had turned up and who clearly just wanted to play football but it was also very annoying that a club of Neasden's stature cannot raise a full team. The ref had no option but to abandon and we expect the game to be re-scheduled and when it is we would hope to complete a proper competitive fixture."

Defences came out on top in this promotion six-pointer as FC Team and Brady shared the spoils.
FC Team player-manager Mitch Young told JC Sport: "Overall a fair result between two talented teams. Both teams had chances to win but I have no complaints with the score.
"Obviously I am disappointed not to win but the team worked their socks off."
Brady manager Josh Rosenfeld told JC Sport: "I thought we played really well. It was one of our best performances in the last few weeks and the standard of football was very high.
"We had two really good chances to win the game and on another day they would have gone in.
"Team are an organised side and have played together for many years. I think the result is better for us than team as they needed the three points.
"The league is super-tight and still in our hands to be champions.
"I want to single out their centre halves. They were superb; the best defensive displays we have come up against all season."

Relegated Lions claimed a point in their final game of the season with a strike from Simon Wax earning Montana a point.
Lions equalised when Scott Levy finished a one-on-one.
Lions manager Jamie Kyte told JC Sport: "Yesterday was a good battle with both teams having numerous chances to kill the game at different times. Marc Brahams kept us in the game for the first half pulling off some fantastic saves that in turn gave the defence more confidence.
"After they took the lead in the opening minutes of the second half we pretty much dominated possesion. Aviel Schwartz showed his class spreading the ball across the pitch with the greatest of ease.
"Our break finally came when Scott Levy found himself one on one with Montana's make-shift keeper slotting the ball into the net from close range.
"It's a shame that we finished bottom of the league. Out of our last five games we only lost one, a case of a little too late but I see no reason why we can't take our end of season form into next year's fixtures."
Montana joint-caretaker-manager Raymond Harrod told JC Sport: "Job done, with one game to go. A very up and down season with lots of long term injuries and a manager resigning after the first game of the season.
"We will be looking to recruit a new manager at the end of this season and looking to bring in four or five younger players so we can challenge at the right end of the table next season."

A solitary strike from Ben Myers boosted Oakwood's promotion hopes and left Raiders' title celebrations on hold as they were beaten for the second consecutive week.
Oaks joint-manager Alex Schock told JC Sport: "In the first half we totally outplayed them. We passed the ball better, were fitter, quicker and wanted it more, yet we couldn't find the back of the net, this being typical of our season.
"We went ahead though early in the second half with Ben Myers scoring 'a cross' from 45 yards out. After that the game was bit scrappy and we couldn't find the rhythm we had in the first but managed to hold out for the win which we fully deserved.
"A great team performance all round today but our defence was superb with Eddie Manson particularly impressive."
Raiders boss Rob Richman told JC Sport: "The match against Oakwood was always going to be a particularly tough one as we went into the match without seven first team regulars. Despite that we are disappointed we didn't get a point against a really good Oakwood side.
"After that we dominated the rest of the second half but we couldn't quite create anything clear cut. We thought we had a great opportunity when the referee awarded us a penalty but he rather ridiculously changed his mind.
"Despite our complaints I have to give full credit to the entire Oakwood back four who I thought defended brilliantly throughout."

Redbridge B eased relegation fears with victory in a six-pointer against fellow strugglers Camden at Fairlop.
Jamie Cooper and Sam Van Gelder were the marksmen in a game RJC were indebted to a brilliant penalty save from Michael Sidloff with the game goalless.
Redbridge manager Ben Norris told JC Sport: "We started off his quite sloppy but soon got our game together. Our midfield hunted in packs so Camden had no room to breathe and their long ball was easily dealt with by our centre backs.
"I felt at times we played some really good football and got the result which was the main thing.
"Whether we stay up or not that's a different story as the teams around us have games in hand on us but I think to have the points in the bag is better.
"This group of players have shown some real guts to get us to where we are so they have to be applauded. We can only hope results go in our favour in the weeks to come and we stay up."

Temple Fortune A were crowned Division Two champions as they saw off Faithfold at the Hive in a highly professional display.
Goals from Michael Goldberg plus two from Ben Isaacs sealed the win.
FAITHFOLD B vs TEMPLE FORTUNE A
Goldberg helped to lift the tension somewhat by opening the scoring from a free-kick in the first half. Isaacs added a second and scored an excellent third with 20 minutes or so to go to secure the championship.
At the final whistle, the team celebrated jubilantly as news of Brixton's 3-1 defeat filtered through via MSFL Chairman David Wolff, who offered his own congratulations to the Club. With Fortune winning, the Brixton result mattered little but it was nice to win the title by four points all the same – the same margin that the 1985/86 team managed.
Fortune manager Andy Souber said: "I am delighted with the win and the clean sheet but most importantly we have won the division. To finish above Brixton, Norstar and Woodford shows we've had a great season and all credit must go to the players. They've been brilliant and this success is fully merited."
For Chairman Nigel Kyte, and anyone else connected with the Club who was around 25 years ago, the euphoria of this season's championship win is all the more magnified by what happened during the 1985/86 season. "It's been a long, long time coming. We tasted success and wanted more but these things can be hard to find. Yet this Club has persevered and years and years of effort have paid dividends again," he enthused.
"To say I am delighted and proud is an understatement. I am particularly pleased for Andy and Lee, whose hard work this season has simply been wonderful. Without such organisation, right through the Club as well, the template for this success would not have been in place. Mazeltov to everyone involved."
Faithfold manager Rob Shooman said: "Fortune are worthy winners."

BRIXTON FORCED TO SETTLE FOR RUNNERS-UP
WOODFORD WANDERERS 3 BRIXTON OLD BOYS 1
Woodford Wanderers finished their season on a high as they overcame Division Two runners-up Brixton Old Boys at Redbridge Sports Centre.
Harrison Midda, David Green and Daryl Kay were the goal men for Woodford.
An ill-tempered affair finished 10-a-side as the Wanderers crushed Brixton's dreams of winning the title.
Brixton's goal came through Ed Weicz.
Woodford player-manager Alex Aviram told JC Sport: "We showed quality in depth today. Even with big players missing we outclassed them all over the pitch. The result speaks for itself."
John Nitka, the Brixton boss, told JC Sport: "it was an ill-tempered game on a terrible pitch in which we had Sam Franks sent off after 20 mins which didn't help.
"However, in a game where the referee in my opinion should have been much firmer with various decisions but after going behind 3-1 in the first half hour we defended brilliantly led by Ed Weisz with captain Rob Blackman thereafter.
"We then went down to having eight fit players even after making three substitutions. They had a player sent off towards the end and should have had at least one more earlier on.
"It's been an exciting season despite our early defeats we have gained promotion as I said we would and I will make a further prediction in September."

Jamie Shaw was the matchwinner once more as Glenthorne edged closer to the title with a hard-fought win over promotion rivals Heath Banta in Chigwell.
Thornes joint-player-manager Dan Lipman told JC Sport: ""One down, two to go. We know what we have to do. The boys were great today."
Ben Nathan, the Heath Banta boss, told JC Sport: "After our reserve keeper got injured in the warm-up, Josh Shindler became the sixth man to play in goal for Banta this year, and although we rode our luck a little he did an excellent job.
"When Glenthorne were reduced to 10 men midway thorugh the first half we exerted a lot of pressure on them but couldn't find an equaliser.
"They were very solid in the second half and we couldn't break them down, and were perhaps fortunate to only lose 1-0. If we could get our strongest team out week in, week out, we'd be a force to be reckoned with, but with four centre backs, a goalkeeper and top-scorer all away we were always going to struggle."

Redbridge boosted promotion hopes with an easy win over struggling JLGB at Peter May Sports Centre.
Dan Gordon, James Fox and Elliot Fox were the scorers for a Redbridge team who led 2-0 at the break.
JLGB's best chance fell to Nicky Stone who hit straight at the keeper.
The match was marred by an injury to Redbridge stalwart Marc Silver who suffered damaged ankle ligaments in a tackle.
RJC boss Richard Bronzite told JC Sport: "I'm delighted with the win. We controlled the game from the first whistle to the last. Well played to JLGB for playing the game in the right way.
"Marc Silver is out for the season, we wish him well.
"Would also like to say well done to our B team who have finished the season off very well."
JLGB manager Robert Silverman told JC Sport: "It was a good game this, very competitive with no nastiness, the way the game should be played.
"To be fair, Redbridge were the stronger team in the first half and probably deserved their 2-0 lead. JLGB were knocking the ball around nicely however, but were not able to create any telling efforts on goal.
The second half was a slightly different story, JLGB were much more in the game and it became a more even contest. Unfortunately, JLGB have had no luck this season, and that didn't change today and when Justin Freedman was unfortunate to give away a penalty which Dan Gordon converted, the game was up really.
"Even so, JLGB battled to the end and gave a good performance overall. Matt Rhodes had a couple of good long rangers saved, Josh Danan had one also.
"Best wishes to Redbridge defender Marc Silver who had to go off after a crunching tackle from Barry Green."

Cohen added: "It was a superb performance from all 13 players mainly around James Levy who ran the midfield and the strikers Joel Winton and Josh Toff who got two each in our first clean sheet of the season and our biggest win in four years to help keep us up.
"Life didn't have a shot on target and we dominated the entire game. When I get my full team out like this no one can touch us.
"It was a lovely sunny Zigzag performance and Heath should watch out next Sunday."

A hat-trick from joint-player-manager DAN OADE lifted Shirley Park into fourth spot with an emphatic victory over Bilbaum in Hampstead.
Jason Lindsay (2), Gideon Gold (2) and Dan Mitman with the other scorers as they registered their 10th win of the season, scoring seven goals in the second half.
Josh Greibach claimed a consolation for Bilbaum.
Shirley Park joint-player-manager Dave Lusman told JC Sport: "Bilbaum fought hard in the first half and kept the us at bay. We only managed to find the back of the net once.
"Going into the second half things looked bright and we started to pick up the pace. We had to play most of the second half with 10 men after using our sub at half time.
"However we stayed disciplined and finished the game 8-1 up. We were unstoppable. Howard was back with vengeance after a few weeks off the boil and pulled off several fine saves."
Bilbaum boss Josh Ejdelbaum told JC Sport: "After an even first half, only one team wanted to win the second. It wasn't us and we got what we deserved.
"We will need to look at ourselves if we want to prevent this from happening again."

HENDON UNITED SPORTS CLUB C 2 TEMPLE FORTUNE B 1
Two more goals from Benny Goldberg earned Hendon C a 10th win of the season as they edged past Temple Fortune B in West Hendon.
However, the match was marred by a suspected broken leg to stand-in Fortune keeper Ollie Harris. With Phil Small absent, Harris was injured in a heavy collision and was taken to hospital.
David Sawyer scored Fortune's lone goal, his third in three games for the Club since rejoining recently.
Fortune joint-manager Rob Jay said: "We had a terrible first half but picked up after the break. We gave away a really soft goal. Based on our second half performance, I thought we deserved something from the game."
