In National Volunteers Week, Jewish Care honoured some of its most dedicated helpers in a ceremony at Redbridge Jewish Community Centre.

Among the winners were residents Solle Frankel, 98, and Hettie Tauber, 93, who were honoured for their respective contributions to the charity’s Rubens House in Finchley and Vi and John Rubens House in Redbridge.

A new award went to Sam Jacobs for her work on the e-file project for the mental health team. She spent six months collating client contact information and support plans for a central information resource.

The lifetime achievement award went to Alan Phillipp, who has volunteered for 40 years as treasurer, director and chairman of the pension scheme. At the other end of the age spectrum, 18-year-old Sam Janoff was young volunteer of the year in recognition of his work at the Vi and John Rubens home.

Thanking the winners, Jewish Care chairman Stephen Zimmerman calculated that “our current volunteer workforce provides us with over £4 million of work. So when we say we could not do it without you, we really mean it.”
