A security lock-down was implemented at King Solomon High in Redbridge on Monday after reports that a knife-wielding youth was heading towards the school.

Police advised staff to gather pupils together while they searched the premises. A 15-year-old boy was eventually detained nearby and police said there was no evidence that he had intended to enter the school. He appeared at Redbridge Youth Court on Tuesday charged with possession of a bladed article. He received a six-month referral order to report to the Youth Offending Team.

King Solomon head Spencer Lewis praised the response of police, staff and students in handling the incident “with the utmost professionalism”.
