World Jewish Relief supporters have been given a behind the scenes look at an enterprise which, in wholesale value, has provided £26 million-plus worth of essential supplies to communities in need since 2003.

More than 30 WJR donors toured the Neasden warehouse for the Gifts in Kind project, seeing goods being sorted and repacked.

Volunteers are crucial to the venture with 120 regularly undertaking packing duties and 18 driving.

At the destination end, the goods are distributed under the supervision of local social and community workers.

Gifts in Kind manager Rosalind Bluestone applauded "the generosity of UK and European-based companies who donate new goods.

"With the amazing help of these companies, we are able to send warm bedding, clothing for all ages, sheets, boots and shoes.

"Our corporate donors are both Jewish and non-Jewish companies who love what we do and are happy to benefit from the tax advantage of donating redundant stock."

An example of the impact of Gifts in Kind followed major floods in Moldova last summer.

WJR dispatched 57 boxes of humanitarian aid to the worst affected villages including clothes, footwear, knitted blankets, hygiene products and plasters.
