Fifty pence says it's offside

articlemain

A football fan fed up with misunderstandings about the offside rule has found a way to put his money where his mouth is by designing an explanatory coin.

Neil Wolfson submitted his idea to the Royal Mint last year after members of the public were invited to contribute graphics for a set of commemorative coins marking the London Olympics. The north Londoner's concept was chosen from thousands of entries to be on a 50 pence piece.

Mr Wolfson said he wanted to create something original to reflect the fact that the offside rule "is always a talking point".
