Compromise reached on waste disposal

articlemain

Strictly Orthodox Jewish families in Bury who feared reduced waste collections by the local council have managed to negotiate increased bin capacity. Fortnightly collections and smaller bins are to be introduced next month, days before Succot, in a bid to save millions of pounds and to increase recycling. Large families have said they would struggle to cope.

However, a compromise reached last week allows families of eight or more a second 240-litre bin. Families of 10 or above can have up to three domestic waste bins. A £25 administration charge will apply for extra bins.
