Sloma rescues GB

Team GB Open football came from 3-1 down to draw 3-3 against Wingate & Finchley at Rowley Lane.

In their second warm-up match ahead of the Maccabiah Games, goals from Mitch Hahn (2) and captain Sam Sloma completed the comeback. Hahn and Danny Berg spurned chances to win the game.

GB manager Jonathan Kestenbaum said: “The scoreline didn’t reflect the balance of play, particularly in the second half. The team felt that we should have won but these games are all about what we learn in preparation for the tournament and we have learned a great deal.”

Former Wycombe Wanderers midfielder Scott Shulton has been called into the squad. Kestenbaum said: “I had a long talk with their manager Peter Taylor about him. He spoke highly of Scott and we are delighted he will be joining us. He has settled in with the squad very quickly.”

Maccabi Herzliya star Josh Kennet has withdrawn from the squad through injury.
