Season 2016/17: meet the teams - Oakwood A

articlemain

Oakwood have been held back by long-term injuries to key players over the past couple of seasons.

With Dan Kristall joining Ric Blank and Alex Schock in the dug-out last year, they took another step in the right direction in season 2015/16, eventually falling short of the major honours.

But another strong recruitment drive has seen them draft in some top-notch talent in a bid to join the top table.

With captain marvel Adam Levine back in action and a number of youthful players joining the fold, they will be looking to build on Kristall’s assumption that they were “the best team in the league by the end of last season”.

Jake Norton, Zack Collins, Thomas Prais, Louis Rawlings and Harvey Kaye are names that will excite the Oakwood faithful, and strike fear into their opponents.

COMPETITIONS ENTERED:
Peter Morrison Trophy, Cyril Anekstein Cup and the MGBSFL Premier Division

HOPES FOR THE SEASON:

Silverware – we were close last year. I believe that by the end of the season, we were the best team in the league and it was our stuttering start that impacted our chances of winning the title.
I felt we were unlucky at Wingate and the depth to the squad probably killed us off that day.

PLAYERS IN & OUT:

We have been busy in the market.

IN: Jake Norton, Zack Collins, Thomas Prais, Louis Rawlings (has made his loan move permanent), Harvey Kaye (returns from travels)

All of the above have put pen to paper on deals with the club and we look forward to welcoming the new signings.

OUT: Antony Kintish (although never say never), Simon Davies - Skip goes away on work to return for the run in. He will be a big miss

PLAYERS TO WATCH:
The new signings are all students and we are delighted to have them on board. They give the squad some depth.

Captain Adam Levine returns which is a huge boost to the side if we can keep him fit.

Sam cantor could be the best player in the league if he gets a run of games.

We expect our big

WHAT WILL THE TEAM BRING TO THE LEAGUE THIS SEASON?

A healthy title challenge and a good cup run. We are even more determined to win silverware having come so close last year.
I believe that we have what it takes to challenge in all competitions. The squad now has a good balance of youth and experience.

We had the best Jewish defence in the country last year and we have strengthened it this year so I expect us to be difficult to break down.

Adam Levine
