Schlesinger eliminated from Judo competition in Rio

articlemain

Alice Schlesinger suffered a disappointing defeat in the second round of the Women's under-63kg Judo competition at Rio 2016.

The Team GB judoka claimed a first-round victory over Ji-Yun Bak of Korea with an ippon — the highest score possible in judo, which ends a match.

But she was unable to follow it up as she succumbed to Anicka van Emden of Netherlands in a close bout.

Living in Herzliya, Schlesinger is a former Israeli athlete who switched allegiances after falling out with the Israel Judo Association.

Yaron Gerbi of Israel is through to the quarter-finals of the same competition following her victory over Marciet Espinosa of Cuba.
