Ruthless Jewventus punish Boca Jewniors

BOCA JEWNIORS 2 JEWVENTUS 6

The return leg of this league fixture was hopefully going to settle the score for the Boca boys, eventually, it wasn’t to be. Even though the scoreline doesn’t suggest it, the performance was better than last week.

The game started in scrappy fashion, neither team could carve out a decent opening, until 15 minutes in when Sefton Monk lashed a 30-yard left-foot strike that found its way over the Jewventus goalkeeper and into the net.

That goal seemed to galvanise Boca, with the attackers fashioning more chances. Jamie Weinrich was causing all kinds of problems down the left. A couple of decent crosses were inches away from being turned in by Joel
Levitt and Joel Newman on consecutive occasions.

Not long after Levitt was played through to which he unselfishly passed sideways to Weinrich to slot home. However, this was ruled out by the referee for offside, even though the finisher was behind Levitt when the
ball was played.

Boca were unable to build on the goal and went onto concede three just before half time. After Bradley Handelaar produced two fine saves, one down low to his left that was destined for the bottom corner, two
massive defensive errors and a header in the six-yard area from a drilled corner meant Jewve went for half-time 3-1 up.

Boca rallied and were still in the game and creating more chances before a ‘keeper error this time let in a Jewventus for an easy finish.

Boca had to pick themselves up again, duly they did when an Alex Newman corner was scrambled to just inside the 18 yard area where Monk slammed home his and Boca's second.

The hosts were on top once more as they had been for most of the game, creating two further one on one opportunities, the first producing a fine save and the second going agonisingly wide, both from the energetic Brett Schuman.

Joel Levitt has another header that went just wide before another horrible error from the goalkeeper from a tame looping shot finally knocked the wind out of the Boca sails.

Gabriel John, Gary Conway, Nigel Sommeck (2) and James Alexander (2) were the scorers for Jewve.

Boca Jewniors boss Sefton Monk told JC Sport: "Silly errors cost us what could have been a win for Boca. Five of the goals we conceded were from huge mistakes that could have been easily avoided. I would certainly say from the balance of play that we created the better chances and more of them to deserve a win but it’s the scoreline that matters.

"Credit to Jewvuntus who punished us, now we must learn how to do this ourselves. I was very pleased to see though that every time we went down, we never stopped trying to get back into the game."
