London Lions - statistically the best team in the land

London Lions’ 14th consecutive victory of the season has put them in an elite band of teams in the country.

James Gershfield was the hat-trick hero as the Lions extended their winning streak against struggling Hatfield Social in the Herts Senior County League’s Premier Division.

Win No. 14 means the Lions, who play in Step 7 of the national league system, which is effectively the 11th tier of English football, have the best record of any team playing league football in England, from County leagues through to Chelsea at the top of the Premier League.

The unblemished run means the Rowley Lane club are one of the last remaining teams across England and Wales who have yet to drop a point — with only New Saints at the top of the Welsh Premier League having a better goal difference.

Manager Andy Landesberg described the landmark as “a nice achievement”.

Commenting on Gershfield’s treble which saw him move on to 23 goals for the season, Landesberg said: “James is scoring goals for fun and deserved his man-of-the-match award.

"But it was about the squad today, with the likes of Adam Arnold putting in a good performance in a game we were forced into a few changes."
