Injury woe halts Silberman's NFL charge

articlemain

Lauren Silberman’s attempt to become the first woman to play in the NFL ended in heartbreak after injury ended her lifelong ambition.

The 28-year-old, who was taking part in a regional trial to become a goal kicker in New Jersey, managed just two kicks before succumbing to a quad problem.

Her first effort travelled just 20 yards, while she was forced to leave the field after her second kick only reached 13 yards.

Silberman said: "When I had the opportunity to be in the NFL, one of the world’s most competitive leagues, I had to take the chance. If I had the opportunity to try again I’d jump at it, but it’s not up to me. It’s up to the scouts."
