David Myers has signed a professional contract with Spanish side Hercules.

Myers, 22, starred for the Maccabi GB Open football team who reached the final at the Maccabiah Games in Israel last summer, where they were defeated 3-0 by America.

He played for London Lions in the Spartan South Midlands League in the run-up to the Maccabiah and was invited for a trial at Crawley Town at the start of the season.

Myers later moved to Spain and started training with UCAM Murcia before Hercules offered him a permanent deal.

He said: “Training is difficult. It’s a good intensity and very hot, often we have two sessions a day. I’m pushing myself on and off the pitch. Plus I am in another country, so I just totally focus on football.”

The goalkeeper is currently in the Hercules B squad, who play in the Spanish lower divisions, but hopes for a call-up for the first team if he can impress in training.

Myers said: “Lions played a big part to where I am now. To play at a club where you enjoy everything is very rare. The management, the players and just the whole environment really boosted my confidence after a few setbacks; it helped get me into form again.”
