The first Israeli athlete in competition in South Korea, Bychenko produced a strong display in the men’s short program, giving Israel nine points by finishing in second place with a score of 88.49 points.

Israel concluded the first day of action with 11 points overall in the figure skating team event. Paige Conners and Evgeni Krasnopolski finished ninth in the pairs short program with a score of 54.47.

The action continues today, with Adel Tanakova and Ronald Zilberberg taking part in the ice dance short dance, while Aimee Buchanan is scheduled to compete in the ladies short program.

There was disappointment for speedskater Vladislav Bykanov after he was disqualified in the men’s 1,500m short track race. He was on course to qualify as one of the top three finishers but was eliminated after TV replays showed he had illegally pushed an opponent.

Britain's AJ Rosen lies a respectable 24th at the half-way point of the men’s luge competition which is set to conclude today.

Rosen will be looking to better the 16th place luge finishes he achieved at Turin 2006 and Vancouver 2010.
