Pakistan foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has spoken of Israel’s “deep pockets” which leads them to “control the media”.
In an interview on CNN on Thursday, Qureshi said that Israel is losing the “the media war” in its battle against Hamas, “despite their connections.”
Presenter Bianna Golodryga, who is Jewish, asked Qureshi, “What are their connections?”
The foreign minister laughed then replied: “Deep pockets.”
Asked by Ms Golodryga what he meant, Qureshi answered: “Well they’re very influential people, they control media.”
Ms Golodryga replied: “I would call that an antisemitic remark.”
Asked to condemn antisemitism, Qureshi would only say: “I will not justify any rocket attacks…and I cannot condone the aerial bombardment that is taking place.”
He called Israel’s actions “genocide,” “war crimes” and “ethnic cleansing.”
Last week, Pakistan's prime minister Imran Khan tweeted: "I am PM of Pakistan and #WeStandWithGaza #WeStandWithPalestine"
