Demjanjuk formally charged with 27,900 counts

articlemain

German prosecutors have formally charged John Demjanjuk with 27,900 counts of being an accessory to murder.

The date of the trial of the Ukrainian-born Demjanjuk, 89, has not yet been confirmed.

Prosecutors accuse Demjanjuk of serving as a guard at the Sobibor camp in Nazi-occupied Poland during World War II, but he has consistently maintained that he was a Red Army soldier who spent World War II as a German prisoner-of-war.
