Attack on Jewish cemetery in Philadelphia

articlemain

A Jewish cemetery in Philadelphia became the latest victim in the wave of antisemitic incidents that has hit the US in the past few weeks.

On Sunday, anywhere between dozens to hundreds of headstones were broken and toppled at the Mt Carmel cemetery.

In its first major statement on the spate of incidents since President Donald Trump was sworn in, the Israeli government described the attack as "shocking" and "a source of worry."

Israeli Foreign Ministry Spokesman Emanuel Nahshon said in a statement: "We have full confidence in US authorities to catch and punish culprits. Evil and hatred must be stopped. Now."

Two Muslim Americans have raised over $130,000 in a crowdfunding campaign to help cover the costs of a previous attack at the St. Louis Jewish cemetery.

In an update on their campaign webpage, the pair said they would offer funds to help repair the damage at the Philadelphia cemetery.
