articlemain

21-year-old Durham University student Will McCreadie, along with friend George Parry, is well on his way to becoming the youngest, fastest and first Briton to kayak across the Caribbean Sea on an epic 2,000-mile route from Grenada to Miami.

The pair, together called the Golden Arc team, have reached the home-straight of the voyage, having started out on September 26 and averaging 30 miles a day. They aim to arrive in Florida on December 26.

This gruelling route has been attempted on only two other occasions. The Golden Arc team, however, are the youngest and first UK team to attempt this challenge.

They are also on track to finish within three months of starting, under half the time it took John Dowd, who made the journey in 1977. Will and George, also a Durham University student, raising money for the Get Exploring Trust, which they set up with the aim of enabling disadvantaged young people.
