Gibson in 'Rothchild'

Well-known antisemite, racist and wife abuser Mel Gibson’s inexplicable Hollywood rehabilitation continues, with the announcement that he will play a leading role in a film called “Rothchild”.

The film, which is billing itself as a “dark satire about New York’s super-rich” will see Gibson, who once went on a drunken rant about how “f***ing Jews…are responsible for all the wars in the world” starring as Whitelaw Rothchild, family patriarch and villain. Reactions have been mixed, ranging from “are you kidding” to “seriously, you’re kid ding, right?”

Tree book keeps bearing fruit

Before Jewish American author, songwriter and cartoonist Shel Silverstein died in 1999, his children’s children’s book The Giving Tree had already become a global smash hit.

But now the much-loved work, about a little boy’s relationship with a tree, has been named by Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle as the book she’s most looking forward to reading to her son, Archie.

It really is the gift that keeps on giving.

Keeping up with the Zimmermans

A family in which father and daughter are both published authors is not unique in Anglo-Jewry – take team Segal (Erich and Francesca) — but the Zimmermans are taking the feat one step further.

Jeremy Zimmerman, 81, and his daughter Vicky (age undisclosed), are due to publish books within 10 days of each other. Jeremy’s collection of verse to read to children, Reading Poetry to the Kids, will be out on May 20 and Vicky’s fifth novel, The Woman Who Wanted More, about the friendship between two women and how they found a new lease of life through food, is released May 30.

Mothers and sons: time to step up.
