A blow-by-blow account of events in the Six Day War as they unfolded will be launched to mark the 50th anniversary of the conflict.
The Board of Deputies, Jewish Leadership Council and Jewish Chronicle will collaborate on the social media initiative, “The Six Day War — 50 Years on” ,which will play out on Facebook and Twitter from mid-May to mid-June.
The daily posts will cover the breaking news for each day, illustrated by contemporary newsreels, photographs and reports from 1967. The project will also focus on how the fast-moving crisis in the Middle East affected British Jews.
Steven Jaffe, the project’s creator, said: “The JC is the paper of record and in addition to daily bulletins of what was going on in Israel, every Friday we will post a selection of the stories appearing in the JC that week in 1967.
“Senior members of our community remember the tremendous trauma of that time, as many feared Israel was facing a second Holocaust.
“But it was also a time of resolve and activism.
“We want younger generations to understand what it must have been like to live through the crisis”.
The daily posts on the project’s Facebook page and Twitter account will begin on May 15.
