The former chief executive of the Board of Deputies, Baroness Merron, will play a part in the coronation of King Charles III on Saturday week as a representative of Judaism, the Times has reported.

The newspaper said that four peers for the first time would formally represent non-Christian faiths in the ceremony to crown the sovereign.

Baroness Merron would be carrying one of the coronation robes to the King, it said.

Buckingham Palace said on Sunday it could not confirm arrangements of the service in Westminster Abbey but further details would be forthcoming.

The Chief Rabbi, Sir Ephraim Mirvis, will be among leading religious figures attending the ceremony.

He and his wife Valerie have been invited to stay at the royal residence Clarence House on the Friday night preceding the coronation to make it easier for them to attend without breaking Shabbat. The Abbey is less than a mile’s walk away.

Sir Ephraim is expected to issue a special coronation prayer to be recited in congregations.
