A London gallery is exhibiting the work of an artist who has promoted antisemitic conspiracy theories and suggested Israel was behind 9/11.

Anna Laurini, who has displayed her paintings in cities around the world and featured in an interview in Vogue, opened her show at the Fitzrovia Gallery on Tuesday evening.

Over the past decade, Laurini has shared antisemitic conspiracy theories online multiple times, and once shared a post suggesting Jews control the media, banking and pornography industries.

The Italian painter posted on Instagram an old photo of herself posing in front of the World Trade Center in New York with a caption suggesting Israel may have carried out the 9/11 attacks.

“I found this iconic photo from the time, I had no idea what was about to happen…” the post read. It carried the hashtags “israel”, “9/11insidejob” and “zionist”.

She also appeared to link the Rothschild family to the 2001 al-Qaeda terror attack, writing that one week before the atrocity, an Israeli cargo company, the Zim Shipping Company, “broke [a] lease it had held for 30 years and moved out of the World Trade Center.” She continued: “Zim is half owned by the Rothschilds.”

Many antisemitic theories say the Jewish Rothschild family possesses undue control over the world’s financial system.

In another Instagram post, Laurini shared photos of herself posing with and David Icke, a notorious conspiracy theorist.

The former Hereford United goalkeeper has claimed “a small Jewish clique” worked with Adolf Hitler and helped to “create” both world wars.

Laurini has also shared material on Gab, a loosely moderated social media platform, suggesting Jews control the media and the pornography industry.

A cartoon shared by the artist shows a man asking “how are they connected?” as he stands in front of a board on which topics including “pornography”, “banking” and “Hollywood” are connected by string in the shape of the Star of David.

The post adds: “If you ignore the JQ you are politically illiterate.” The “JQ” or “Jewish Question” is a term used frequently by people on the far-right.

Another post shared by Laurini describes sex offender Jeffrey Epstein as a “billionaire Jew pal of the rich and powerful” and his accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell as a “rich Jew”.

On her website Laurini bills herself as “one of the most distinctive urban contemporary artists to burst onto the London scene”. She has painted Picasso-inspired graffiti on buildings across the UK, and claims to have exhibited her work in New York, Milan and Paris.

Laurini said: “I cannot now recall the content of the postings that you claimed I share on social media [sic].” She added that the account where those posts appeared “closed down over two years ago” and the comments “do not represent” her views.

The Fitzrovia Gallery said: “We simply hire the gallery space for artists and/or their agents to exhibit. We do not get involved with any of their artwork or selection of it. We are simply a space for hire. We have not ‘arranged’ her show.”
