A new report published by the Muslim Council of Britain (MCB) which claims to expand on “how Islamophobia has been defined” has included an endorsement by notorious Bristol University professor David Miller .
The report, launched on Tuesday, is titled Defining Islamophobia: A Contemporary Understand Of How Expressions Of Muslimness Are Targeted, and received the support of MPs including Labour’s Wes Streeting, co-chair of the APPG On British Muslims, Ian Blackford, the SNP Parliamentary Leader In Westminster, Baroness Sayeeda Warsi, APPG On British Muslims treasurer, and former Jewish Labour MP Ruth Smeeth.
But Prof Miller’s name is listed amongst the names of academics cited by the MCB in the report as endorsing it.
Bristol University have faced mounting to calls to act over Professor Miller’s conduct in relation to his targeting of Jewish students at the institution.
In her forward to the MCB report Baroness Warsi writes: "This landmark report recognises the fact we cannot wait for a party of government mired in accusations of Islamophobia to lead on this crucial issue.
“Instead, the report pushes this conversation forwards, bringing together all the different aspects of this definition and providing a solid evidence base to assist in the integration and embedding of this across British society.
“I hope that this report will thus take the APPG’s seminal work one step further towards creating a Britain, which better understands the racism British Muslims face, and is better equipped to tackle Islamophobia wherever it is.”
The MCB report notes the similarities between attacks on Jews and Muslims.
It states: ”Muslims are not the only faith group that have been racialised, and Islamophobia is not the only racism in which expressions of identity associated with said faith are targeted.
“Jewish people have also historically been racialised, with antisemitism having long-since been recognised as a form of anti-Jewish racism.”
