Israeli police have cracked down on the "anti-assimilation" group Lehava after three of its members were arrested on suspicion of carrying out the arson attack on the Jewish-Arab Billingual School in Jerusalem three weeks ago. On Tuesday morning, Lehava leader Benzi Gupstein was arrested, along with nine other members of the group. They were charged with incitement to racist violence.
In addition to its activities against intermarriage between Jews and Arabs, Lehava has also organised demonstrations against Arabs working in Jewish neighbourhoods.
Mr Gupstein's lawyer said "Lehava is working legally and the prosecution knows this". Israeli politicians, including former justice minister Tzipi Livni, have called for the movement to be outlawed.
