The Israeli supermodel Bar Refaeli was fined £575,000 and given nine months of community service by a Tel Aviv court on Monday after admitting tax evasion.

Her mother Tzipi Refaeli Levine, a former model, received a 16-month jail term for her involvement.

Refaeli was also ordered to pay back over £3 millions of pounds in taxes owed to the state.

Wearing a mask in court, the 35-year-old celebrity, who presented the Eurovision Song Contest in Israel last year, expressed regret for her actions.

She had been accused of evading taxes from her worldwide earnings by claiming to have lived most of the year overseas.

Her mother was convicted of helping conceal the time her daugher spent in Israel.

The two reached a plea agreement with the authorities earler this year following an investigation begun five years ago.
