The man who was fatally stabbed in the West Bank at the weekend has been named as father-of-four Ari Fuld.

The 45-year-old, who held American and Israeli citizenship, was a prominent advocate on Israel on social media. He was stabbed to death on Sunday outside a shopping mall in Efrat, the town where he lived.

After being stabbed, he chased his attacker and shot him. Mr Fuld later died at the Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem. His attacker is in hospital with multiple gun shot wounds.

Mr Fuld was born in New York and moved to Israel in 1994. He was assistant director of Standing Together, an NGO that advocates for Israeli soldiers. On Twitter, he said he was "defending Israel by exposing the lies and strengthening the truth".

Mr Fuld's brother Hillel Fuld said: "He lived as a hero and died as a hero. My big bro is gone."

David Friedman, the US ambassador to Israel, tweeted: "America grieves as one of its citizens was brutally murdered by a Palestinian terrorist. Ari Fuld was a passionate defender of Israel & an American patriot.

"He represented the best of both countries & will be deeply missed. May his family be comforted & his memory be blessed."
