Employment charity Work Avenue has raised more than £1 million in 36 hours from a fundraising drive which attracted in excess of 3,500 donors.

The target of £750,000 was passed as nine supporters agreed to match fund every penny received.

“Once more, I am blown away by the generosity of the Jewish community and how we always come together to help those who may be struggling, especially during these times." said CEO Debbie Sheldon.

“It costs on average £375 to help each of our clients into work but our income has dropped significantly as we have had to cancel all our usual fundraising events.

“These funds will now help Work Avenue continue to support people so that they can earn a living with dignity.”

Demand for Work Avenue’s assistance has risen significantly during the pandemic with the charity helping more than 2,000 people during 2020.
