King Solomon High sixth-formers took part in a political debate at the Speaker's House to launch the inaugural Parliament Week.

Pupils from the Redbridge school were welcomed by the Speaker, John Bercow, and met MPs at the debate, which was on the subject: "Was there ever a Golden Age of Parliament?"

"It was a great insight into the real world of politics for aspiring politicians," said KS pupil Jessica Stephens. Her schoolmate Max Persell said it had been "a unique experience and made me feel involved with the country's government".

Involving both the Commons and the Lords, the week was designed to raise awareness of Parliament and to encourage people to engage with the democratic system.
