Children in Need has awarded over £51,000 to Jump, a Jewish Council for Racial Equality project for befriending teenage asylum seekers who arrive in the UK without their families.

The social support helps teenagers who have fled conflict or human rights abuses in countries such as Afghanistan, Iraq, Somalia and Congo to build confidence and life skills.

Jcore executive director Edie Friedman was “particularly proud to receive this award in the year marking the 70th anniversary of the Kindertransport. We campaign for and support asylum seekers because refugees are us.”

She pointed out that “the experience of Jewish refugee children who arrived here in the 1930s and were welcomed by the British people very much inspired Jump.”
