Gerald Lebrett starts next week as head of Stamford Hill integrated nursery and special needs school, Side by Side.
He has been head of learning support at Norwood since 2004 and his educational career has also taken in Kisharon and the Menorah Primary.
Side by Side chairman Yossel Margulies said the appointment "marks a new and exciting era for Side by Side. Mr Lebrett brings to the role a unique understanding of special needs education."
Mr Lebrett is "excited to be joining a remarkable learning environment. I am looking forward to working with the dedicated staff."
