Pre-recorded Kol Nidre prayers will also be broadcast by the United Synagogue

The Chief Rabbi will lead an online Yizkor service being broadcast before Yom Kippur on Sunday on the organisation’s TV channel. The broadcast — also involving rabbis and chazanim from England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland — will go out at 2.30pm and will also be available to watch afterwards.

It will comprise both communal and personal Yizkor prayers and a memorial prayer for coronavirus victims.

The US will also broadcast pre-recorded Kol Nidre prayers ahead of the fast in partnership with Pinner Synagogue. Pinner’s Rabbi Ben Kurzer will introduce the service, which is led by chazan Sam Freeman and will be shown at 5:30pm.

US director of education Rabbi Michael Laitner said: “At this difficult time for our community, we are pleased to be able to bring both a Yizkor and Kol Nidre service to all.”
