A world view for Liberals

articlemain

The strong links between Liberal Judaism and the World Union for Progressive Judaism were discussed in London during a visit by WUPJ president Rabbi Stephen Fuchs.

He had talks with Liberal Judaism chief executive Rabbi Danny Rich and its president Lucian Hudson after delivering a shiur to an audience of 40 at Liberal Judaism's Montagu Centre HQ. Mr Hudson said the discussions had deepened friendships.

"Progressive Judaism has never been more relevant to the future of Judaism and this visit serves to underline how much Liberal Judaism is part of a larger common endeavour."

Rabbi Fuchs also addressed members of the Liberal Jewish Synagogue, St John's Wood, describing his WUPJ role as "a sacred opportunity to promote Progressive Jewish life".

He highlighted the world union's support of emerging communities in South America, Germany and Eastern Europe.

LJS senior rabbi Alexandra Wright spoke of the special relationship between the synagogue and the WUPJ, which was established at LJS in 1926.
