With veganism on the rise, it was only a matter of time before it came to your home. The thought of Friday night dinners sans meat, milk or even fish may seem an impossiblity, but there are more and more options for the kosher vegan — and they won't even feel deprived of their chicken soup...

1. Smoked-salmon-less bagel:

What is Sunday morning without salmon bagels? Lara Balsam of the Jewish Vegetarian Society has come up with a salmon-free alternative using carrot. Spread that bagel with vegan cream cheese and settle down with the Sunday papers.

2. 'Chicken' soup:

Another staple - Friday night cannot happen for many of us without the magic, golden broth. This recipe from Lara Balsam (with gorgeous image supplied by Jewish Food Hero) will give you all the steaming comfort you could ask for.

3. Super suppers:

This hearty twice baked sweet potato tzimmes from Kenden Alfond the Jewish Food Hero (which is PACKED with Jewish vegan food ideas) is perfect for winter Shabbat meals.

4. Main event:

Ok, it's not a roast chicken, but this hearty curry from Lisa Roukin has so much flavour, it will delight your vegan guests and is special enough to serve as a Shabbat main course.  (Remember to use coconut sugar and not the honey!)

5. Sweet treats for festive meals:

Tu b'shvat is just around the corner and you'll want a good pud to celebrate. Denise Phillips's vegan cheesecake is packed with dates and nuts - perfect for the birthday of the trees!

There are plenty more ideas in the JC's recipes and on the websites mentioned above. So less stress more fress for you and your vegans in 2019.
