In honour of today's Jewish Bake Day here are five scrumptious and showstopping bakes. On your marks, set, baaaaaaaa-ke!

We all love a nice slice of cake and the JC's archives are packed with them! Whip up one of these in aid of a very good cause....

Anne Shooters's Sesame and Spice book is a favourite and, with countless gorgeous recipes that i've shared with JC readers. This one is packed with tahini, spices and dried fruits and liberally scattered with sesame seeds. Unusual and a bit special.

Michelle Eshkeri founder of the wonderful Margot bakery in East Finchley bakes cakes that are as beautiful to look at as they are to eat. This flower-decked chocolate creation has a peanut butter and cream cheese frosting. (sigh)

Fabienne Viner-Luzzato's food is always full of flavour. Her French Tunisian influences shine through with her magnificent meringues. This tower of raspberry, pistachio and chocolate will have your guests swooning.

If all that refined sugar makes your teeth hurt, then you may prefer Lisa Roukin's cheesecake - packed full of summer fruits.

No apologies for another cheesecake, but this gorgeous specimen from JC regular, Silvia Nacamulli was a showstopper. That photograph makes me want to break open the computer and grab some!
