Yossi Benayoun looks set be offered a new contract at Liverpool after an inspired performance over the second half of the season.

Reds boss Rafa Benitez has been impressed with the Israel captain’s displays and the fact that he has scored a number of key goals in the Premiership and Champions League. According to some reports Benayoun’s salary will be doubled. But Benitez would only say: “I think if he is happy, then he will be okay here. Yossi is playing, so I’m sure he is happy. He is playing more games, has more confidence and you can see the quality that he has. I have to talk to him but he is contracted for another two years.”

Agent Ronen Katsav said: “If we are invited to sit down in the summer, we will be happy to talk.”
