This year’s Maccabi Lawn Bowls Association finals proved to be another exciting event with four enthralling competitions held at Oakhill Bowls Club.

Formed in 1994 in the aftermath of the 1993 Maccabiah Games, this year’s men’s final was played out between Alan Dryer and Maurice Bitton, both of whom were playing in their first Maccabi singles final.

And it was the latter who emerged victorious, sealing a 21-17 win.

In the Mixed Pairs, Ruth Harris, who was playing in her eighth mixed pairs final, and her partner Douglas Greenston lost 16-8 to Sandra Fenton and Gary Burns, who were taking part in their first final in this category.

The Men’s Pairs Final saw a comfortable win for Brian Chalfen and Bernard Davidson, who beat Bernie Shannon and Gary Burns 17-11, a seventh win for Shannon in the competition.

Finally, The Mel Richfield Cup, which is a two-wood competition played in memory of Maccabi’s First Bowls Chairman, was won by Barry Hartog, who beat Laurie Staal 10–4 in the final.

The Maccabi Lawn Bowls Association also enjoyed a successful summer. They won five of their six friendly matches organised against outdoor bowls clubs.
