Stonegrove win battle of the Parks

Watford Friendly League Under 16 Green Division
Stonegrove Park 2 Alexandra Park 0

Stonegrove Park overcame their slow start to the season when they comfortably defeated second in the division Alexandra Park on a cold foggy autumnal morning.

The game started brightly for Stonegrove as is often does nowadays. Stonegrove Park had several excellent chances before and after Barney Rhodes slotted in low and to the left of the goalie after 10 minutes.

Stonegrove continued on and battled well all over the pitch. Alexandra Park had plenty of the game as well and earned the majority of the corners, however they were all dealt with by the solidity of the back four of Michael Simons, Edan Marks, Sam Lipton and Jordan Mizrahi.

Despite some terrific work by Scott Greenfield on the right wing and good inter-play up front, and a really close free kick from Dan Kuber, Stonegrove could not add to the score in the first half.

Alexandra Park battled harder in the second half and Stonegrove looked to be under more pressure. A slender o1-0 lead was always a worry, but Alexandra Park were unable to fashion any dangerous shots on goal, whilst Stonegrove’s breaks often required saves from Alexandra Park’s keeper.

With 10 minutes to go it was Joe Woolf who settled the game with Stonegrove Park’s second goal.

As expected Alexandra Park battled on well until the end but Sam Ellard kept his clean sheet and stand in manager Lloyd Kuber was delighted.

Stonegrove Chief Executive Mark Simmons said: "It was great to see all our players putting in maximum effort today, which paid off with a great win."
