South Manchester succumbed to their second consecutive defeat as they went down by 38 runs against Kashmir in the GMACL.

The scoreline suggests a one-sided contest but it was far from that. This was a much better performance than the previous week against Salford Blue Jays, however it also ended in defeat.

Kashmir elected to bat first but were soon struggling as David Cohen and Dan Glicher bowled with great control. Wickets soon began to fall as the Kashmir batsmen tried to accelerate. A great catch in the deep from Landes off Glicher was the first to go before David Cohen, bowling with some aggression, took over. He finished with 5-24 and was the pick of the bowlers.

Akiva Lieberman chipped in with a couple and Loz Newman took the important wicket of Hussain to stem the flow of runs.
Kashmir finished on 111 all out and South were confident of reaching the target.

However, this was not to be as wickets fell at regular intervals as the Kashmir bowlers bowled superbly, keeping an accurate line and length throughout and giving away just four extras.

Newman, Akiva and Dan Lieberman and Cohen all fell very cheaply and it was only stubborn resistance from Steve Glicher and John Saxon that kept South’s hopes alive.

Glicher fell on 20 to expose South’s tail which has proved to be their downfall in the past and again was no exception.

The final five wickets could only muster three runs between them and Saxon was last man out falling for 28 to wrap up the innings.

South Manchester captain Steve Glicher said: "Our batting just has to improve if they are to progress this year."
