MJSL SHIELD
LEEDS MACCABI 6 SOUTH MANCHESTER SPORTS 2nd 1
Rob Selwyn was the hat-trick hero as treble winners Leeds Maccabi blew South Manchester 2nd away in the MJSL curtain raiser.
For the first hour the scoreline dictated a close encounter although Leeds Maccabi had the majority of possession. As early as the 3rd minute, they grabbed the ascendancy after a quick turn and low shot by Rob Selwyn.
South proved awkward opposition and a resolute defence kept their opponents at bay, albeit attacking forays very limited.
The score remained the same till the break but again at the start of the half, Leeds seized the initiative with Adam Gilman doubling the lead.
After the hour South seemed to lack the fitness of their counterparts and an avalanche of goals followed. Selwyn slotted home number three closely followed by a tap in from Dan Shaw.
In the last five minutes Johnny Goldstone made it five and Selwyn completed an excellent treble.
There was a late consolation for South with a slight deflection with practically the last kick of the game making a final score of 6-1.
Leeds Maccabi retained the Shield and in doing so became the first team to do so since the comp was first played for in 2011.
