Season 2016/17: meet the teams - Scrabble FC

articlemain

Scrabble FC made a dream return to the MGBSFL last season – winning the Division Two title.

Under manager Ray Abrahams, they have put together a talented squad which he believes are capable of mounting a sustain promotion challenge.

He has freshened up the quality, but chosen to keep the identity of the new acquisitions top secret until the season kicks-off.

COMPETITIONS ENTERED:
MGBSFL Division One, Cyril Anekstein Cup, Peter Morrison Cup

HOPES FOR THE SEASON:
Winning the league and gaining promotion last season was fantastic for the club but all that is now history and we need to be focused in every game as we are going to be in a tough division this year where there are some good sides looking to go up to the Premier Division.

I would imagine that four or five clubs will be in the mix for promotion and we are confident that we will be in there. Obviously the league will be decided in the games between those clubs and we have to make sure that we keep getting the points on the board. As always we want to make a good start as we want to set the tone for the season and don’t want to be playing 'catch up'.

PLAYERS IN & OUT:
We’ve reluctantly released four or five players who did so well for us last season and have signed the players that we targeted to compete in this league. We are confident that with the squad we now have that we can secure our aim of back to back promotions by next May.

The pre-season friendlies have been useful as we look to blend in the new signings and we’ve had some great results, most notably a 9-0 win against a Redbridge select side. Brady were the only team to turn us over last season and a 2-1 win over them a few weeks ago was a real psychological boost for the club.

So seven new players have already signed for us and we have one more target before the season starts and we feel that we have improved all areas of the squad in terms of both strength and ability.

PLAYERS TO WATCH:
It’s hard for me to single out individuals to watch as we have a lot of good players but as the season goes on I'm sure one or two will emerge to grab the headlines.

WHAT WILL THE TEAM BRING TO THE LEAGUE THIS SEASON?
We have a really good group who will bring flair and strength to the division and can’t wait for the season to start to show what we can do'
