Rogove, who is 13 and lives in Totteridge, has been selected to compete in the Cadet (U15) Girls’ Team event. Currently ranked fifth in England at U15 girls’ level, Rogove is one of four Cadet girls to take on Europe’s finest at the Championships to be held in Cluj-Napoca from July 15-24.
The Year Eight JCoSS pupil’s selection is recognition for her season of hard work, determination and achievement.
Training daily at Barnet Table Tennis Club and Ellenborough in Enfield, Rogove continues to impress. She collected her first world rankings points on her European debut at the Italian Junior and Cadet Open in Lignano in March after beating world no. 22 and European no. 14 Malamatenia Papadimitriou of Greece 3-2 in her opening match. This result gave Rogove an introductory world ranking at 355 in the International Table Tennis Federation for Cadet Girls.
Rogove’s selection for the forthcoming championships follows her gold and silver medals for England at the Home Countries International held in Guernsey last November, and high finishing positions at National Cup and National Championships in recent months.
Ahead of the competition in Romania, Rogove and her England youth squad team-mates will attend a preparatory training camp abroad with another national youth squad.
Given an opportunity by Table Tennis England to step up a level, Rogove said: “I’m really excited and proud to play for England again. It will be a great experience.”
When Rogove returns to the UK after the championships she will soon fly back to Romania for her intensive summer training camp in advance of next season’s campaign, as her aim is to become the no. 1 ranked U15 girl in England. She also hopes to break into the top 10 at U18 Junior level, obtain promotion to a higher league in France, where she regularly plays, and also to progress on the international stage.
