Oakhill Lions cup double

articlemain

Oakhill Lions completed a cup double after beating Haroldeans in a five-goal thriller to lift the Feldman Trophy at Boundary Park.

Haroldeans forged ahead midway through the first half when Josh Rubin's low shot squirmed through the clutches of Oakhill keeper Mark Passer.

Oakhill spurned a golden chance to level on the stroke of half time when Jake Gilbert's weak penalty was saved by keeper Mike Cross. The miss did not prove too costly as three minutes later, Alex Kaye turned his marker and curled the ball into the bottom corner.

Rubin restored the Merseysiders' advantage with a superb 25-yarder into the roof of the net after 73 minutes.

Oakhill rallied but Cross stood firm to keep out two stinging efforts from Gilbert. Haroldeans could not hold out as Gilbert found a way past the inspired keeper with a low drive three minutes from time.

Heavy legs resulted in little action of note in extra time and with penalties looming, Gilbert flicked the ball on to Kaye whose stooping header proved decisive.

Republic of Mancunia won the Tony Cohen Cup with a 3-0 victory over Broughton Park. A first-half strike from Paul Basger was built upon in the second half as a brace from Dave Eden put the result beyond doubt.

Strikes from James Abrams, Bobby Abrams, Michael Silverberg and an own goal saw Haroldeans crowned champions of the MJSL Joan Collins Premier Division after they beat Westdene 1st 4-2.

The league held their end-of-season awards after the Feldman Trophy final. Oakhill's Alex Kaye won crowned MJSL Player of the Year. Alan Jacobs won the Ken Glancy Memorial Trophy for Ref of the Year. Sporting JLGB will receive a new kit for the team as they won the Sportsmanship Award. They picked up just one caution all season.

Leeds J-Uni hotshot Oli Grant collected the Steve Blackstone Top-Scorer Award after grabbing 23 goals. Anthony Bloch collected the MJSL Secretary of the Year.
