Nomads destroy Belmont and Edgware

articlemain

Casual Nomads recorded an emphatic 10-wicket Maccabi League win against Belmont & Edgware at Shenley.

Electing to bat on a humid afternoon, Belmont & Edgware made a solid start with Phil Mayer (49) and Cliff Horowitz (31) punishing the occasional short or wide delivery.

But the Nomads bowlers maintained tight control throughout the innings, with Oscar Brodkin (3-15) and Simon Renshaw (3-30) the main destroyers as the visitors were bowled out for modest but competitive 162 in the 38th over.

The Nomads reply began cautiously with opening bowler Jeremy Freedman regularly testing openers Richard Ferrer and Danny Samson. But the pair soon got into their stride, taking full advantage of a typically flat and friendly Shenley pitch.

Thanks to some assured hitting and a number of dropped catches in the field, both batsmen recorded half-centuries as Nomads reached their target with eight overs to spare.
