Wingate & Finchley 2
East Thurrock United 2

Wingate & Finchley manager Michael Stone was delighted with the character shown by his team as the blues maintained their playoff push with a hard-earned draw against fellow high-flyers East Thurrock United.

“I thought we had a great start and in the first 25 minutes caused East Thurrock all sorts of problems. We scored one during this period and if we had added another I really feel that it would have been difficult for them to come back.”

Stone, who will coach the GB open team at July’s Maccabiah, said: “We are standing up to be counted amongst a tough run of opponents which shows we deserve to be where we are. But valuable points are escaping and at this stage of the season its wins that are needed to keep putting pressure on those teams above us.”

Sixth place in the table, Wingate travel to Enfield Town tomorrow.
