Masters futsal on medal mission in Berlin

articlemain

Phil Caplin insists Team Maccabi GB will go all out for gold in the Masters Futsal competition at the European Maccabi Games in Berlin.

Player-manager Caplin has included a number of big names who competed at the 19th Maccabiah Games in the squad, including Danny Schweiger and Mark Wagman as the group attempts to emulate their 2011 predecessors, who returned home from Vienna with an impressive Silver medal.

"We've developed into a fit and tight unit," said Caplin. "We are improving every week and, with a few new players to the sport of Futsal, everyone is learning to gel as a team and possess the right attitude to do well in Berlin.

"With a combination of experience and stamina, I feel we can impress this summer. Our aim is firstly to win the Gold – or, as a minimum, to bring back a medal. One thing’s for sure, we will go out there and give everything on the court.

"Additionally, when we’re off the court we will definitely embrace everything the European Maccabi Games has to offer – the significance of a Jewish international sports tournament in Germany, taking in the history and culture of Berlin, the family atmosphere throughout Team Maccabi GB and integrating with all the other Jewish competitors. It’s going to be amazing to be a part of this event."
