The 93-person delegation was made up of Masters Over-35s, 45s, 55s Football, Tennis and Padel Tennis, with Sam Cohen, assistant Head of Delegation, winning a gold in the doubles, together with was Sharoni Rosenberg of Chile, and silver in the Singles in the Masters Tennis tournament.
They shared a unique Maccabi Friday night with athletes from all over the world which is repeated at all Maccabiot and regional international Games. There was no greater example of this than just before one of the football matches Maccabi GB were involved in, when both teams spontaneously burst into traditional Jewish song and dance, just before kick off!
Cohen, assistant Head of Delegation, expressed pride following her double medal haul. “Twenty years on from my first Maccabi GB experience as a Junior athlete in Stirling, Scotland, I am proud to bring home gold and silver in my first masters tennis competition," she said.
"But beyond the medals, it was such an honour to once again represent Team Maccabi GB and be part of such a great group of athletes and managers. It was a fun filled sport, community and Jewish peoplehood. Once again, I come away with incredible Jewish memories, new friendships and immense Jewish pride.”
Head of Delegation Brian Green reflected on the Games: “The camaraderie within this squad is second to none and combined with the fantastic organisation and unbelievable hospitality from our hosts, has made this one of the best Games ever.”
Maccabi GB CEO Martin Berliner said: “Whatever the results on the sports field, the success of these events in our eyes is the unique combination of a social, cultural, educational experience wrapped in Jewish Identity through the prism of sport.
