Two late goals saw London Lions move to within one point of a promotion place with an impressive win against second placed Wodson Park.

LONDON LIONS 2 WODSON PARK 0

Having seemingly had the better of their opponents, winning three times previously over the last year, albeit narrowly, Lions good form of late saw them go into the game with much confidence.

It was an even contest with the scores level at half-time, although Lions had edged the shot count with Austin Lipman testing the Park ‘keeper and Bolle and Burchell narrowly missing the target.

The game sprang to life in the last quarter however when Lions found the breakthrough on 77 minutes. Charlie Rubin’s corner found the head of Nick Landesberg whose effort was saved, only for the Lions centre-back to force home the rebound from close range.

Wodson desperately tried to get back into it, playing some attacking stuff, but Lions clinched the win in injury time as substitute Jack Mattey found himself through on goal and cleverly chipped the advancing ‘keeper and seal another three points for Lions.

The Lions have now won eight out of their last nine in the league, including against a number of their promotion rivals, and continue to be in the mix for that spot with Wodson Park, Baldock Town, Winslow Town and Enfield Borough, who are all very closely matched.
