Israel's manager Fernandez settles debt

articlemain

Israel manager Luis Fernandez has reportedly settled his debt with Qatari side Al Rayyan.

The Frenchman was given until March 4 by the Israel FA to pay €400,000 and have his Fifa suspension revoked.

Fernandez had earlier insisted that he would not pay the penalty for breaking a contract to move to Betar Jerusalem in 2005. He said: "Fifa are annoying me. They won't listen as they want to be OK with Qatar who are hosting the World Cup.

But in a statement released this week, he said: "I have solved the problem of my suspension by Fifa and look forward to continuing to manage the Israel national team.

Fernandez's position is under threat with Israel's Euro 2012 hopes hanging by a thread, but IFA chairman Avi Luzon said: "We are pleased to hear this and await news from Fifa that the suspension has been revoked."
